Staying at Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta

If you have some time in Tokyo and love Disney, Tokyo Disney should definitely be on your list of things to do. If you want to splurge, you have to stay at a Disney hotel, and if you are going to do that, go to Hotel MiraCosta.

Disney has three hotels at their Tokyo location.  The Ambassador Hotel,  Tokyo DisneyLand Hotel and Hotel MiraCosta.  There are also six “official” hotels from the likes of Sheraton and Hilton right on the bay and “partner” hotels a little farther away.  Hotel MiraCosta takes the cake.

Why the Hotel MiraCosta?

The MiraCosta is the only hotel that’s IN a park.  It sits at the entrance to DisneySea and all the rooms from what I can tell have great views of the park.  Check the parks event times before you splurge on the lagoon side though.  I’m glad I didn’t get that side the day we went because they ended up not having the fireworks and they are substantially higher cost.

Access

Take the Disney Resort line from Maihama around to the DisneySea stop.  The hotel has its own special entrance straight from the train station!  Don’t miss it! It’s a nice walkway to what is the entrance to the hotel that overlooks the entrance to the park.

The Rooms and Service

We stayed on the Vienna side and overlooked the gondola ride.  The rooms are quite large (especially when you consider Japan standards) and looked newly renovated.  The hotel is MASSIVE, by the way, and after we checked in we were escorted to our room by a bellhop.  Who took our bags for us as per usual and per Japan, no tipping.

Once through the giant maze (don’t worry, there are signs pointing you in the correct direction) we checked out our room and then the rest of the hotel.

The Perks of Staying at Official Tokyo Disney Hotel

First, stop at guest information at Maihama before you head up to the resort line.  You’ll get your pass for the resort line to use during your stay.  I think you can also have them deliver your baggage but we didn’t need that.

The big one, you have guaranteed admission to the park and also you get 15 minutes early entry through a special entrance.  That doesn’t buy you a lot of time but you can hop in line before the majority of people (note: the fast pass counters don’t open till the park opens just like the rides so do a ride first).

Since the MiraCosta is right at the park, there is also a special entrance back INTO the hotel from the park side.  It saves you from having to walk around and you can feel special that you have special access.

Side note:  The Disney Official hotels only get guaranteed tickets.

Yup, still a line for the early entry.  We got out there nearly at the gate time though.

Picking a date

Did you catch how I said there is guaranteed access for hotel guests?  That includes the official hotels too.  All of these hotels are huge.  There are websites with crowd predictors.  They are pretty accurate (they take into account how full all those hotels are) and I recommend checking them out before you pick the date you’ll be getting a room.

If you are going in summer, make sure you bring some sunscreen and it’s always good to have an umbrella on you, even if it is not rainy season.

Thoughts on Tokyo Disney Hotels

I won’t consider this an every trip location as it is more expensive than the official hotels, and much pricer than what you can find in a bargain hotel but I’m super glad we splurged at least once and got to experience Disney magic outside of the parks.

Have you been to the MiraCosta?
